Water Conservation
Water Conservation Initiative
At Dona Ana MDWCA, we recognize that water is one of our most valuable resources—especially here in the Southwest. While our groundwater wells currently meet our needs, the future demands proactive planning and thoughtful use.
Why Conservation Matters
In our arid region, every drop counts. Water conservation is one of the most effective strategies to ensure long-term sustainability for our community. By using water wisely today, we help protect future generations.
How We’re Promoting Conservation
We’re committed to fostering a culture of water stewardship through:
-
Educational outreach in local schools
-
Incentive programs to promote efficient water use
-
Community engagement focused on improving indoor and outdoor watering habits
Learning from Success
Other communities in the Southwest have shown what’s possible:
-
El Paso, TX reduced per-person water use by over 35%, from 205 GPCD to 128 GPCD between 1985 and 2019.
-
Alamogordo, NM also achieved substantial reductions by focusing on long-term conservation strategies.
We’re inspired by these successes and are committed to implementing similar efforts here at Dona Ana MDWCA.
Your Role in Conservation
Every member can make a difference. Whether it's fixing leaks, adjusting irrigation schedules, or installing water-saving appliances, small changes add up to big savings.
Together, we can protect our water supply and build a more resilient future.
